As leaders, it is important that we delve into the
critical issue of anti-blackness in organizations and teams
and its impact on workplace dynamics. This snapshot into
anti-blackness serves as a call to action for leaders and
organizations to confront racism head-on, dismantle
systemic discrimination, and create a workplace that truly
embraces the power of who we are a community. In our
ever-evolving world, it is important that leaders embrace
their knowledge of people as the catalyst for change and
progress.
Anti-blackness in organizations or within teams refers
to the systematic discrimination, prejudice, and bias
against people who identify as Black or have African
ancestry. It is a form of racism that specifically targets
Black people, perpetuating harmful stereotypes, limiting
opportunities, and creating barriers to their advancement
and inclusion in the workplace. To unmask the insidious
nature of anti-blackness in organizations, I will share one
of my personal experiences that underscores the subtle
ways it shows up. I had been doing informal equity work
