Implementing training programs and workshops to
raise awareness about anti-blackness, unconscious bias,
and racism in the workplace. Developing and enforcing
policies that promote fair treatment and opportunities for
all employees.
Promoting representation of Black people in leadership
roles to influence decision-making and foster an inclusive
culture. Establishing affirming and confidential channels
for employees to report incidents of discrimination, bias, or
harassment. Encouraging allies to support and advocate
for their Black colleagues, fostering a supportive and
inclusive work environment. Actively seeking and
listening to the experiences and concerns of Black
employees to identify areas of improvement and address
these issues promptly.
Many years ago, a couple of young entrepreneurs (
Molly Bolanos and Anne Marie Flagherty) ran a
homegrown business in the Seattle area. They hired me to
work on one of their production lines, and within a few
months, I was promoted to Lead. That was a wonderful
experience because they saw me as a person capable of
doing a job, and did not focus on my past or my color. In
